“CRISING” INTENSIFIES INTO SEVERE TROPICAL STORM AND IS NOW OUTSIDE THE PHILIPPINE AREA OF RESPONSIBILITY

Location of Center (10:00 AM):
The center of Severe Tropical Storm CRISING was estimated based on all available data 235 km West of Itbayat, Batanes (20.6°N, 119.6°E) (OUTSIDE PAR).

Intensity:
Maximum sustained winds of 100 km/h near the center, gustiness of up to 125 km/h, and central pressure of 980 hPa

Present Movement:
West northwestward at 15 km/h

Extent of Tropical Cyclone Winds:
Strong to storm-force winds extend outwards up to 600 km from the center

TROPICAL CYCLONE WIND SIGNALS (TCWS) IN EFFECT

Wind threat: Gale-force winds

Warning lead time: 24 hours

Range of wind speeds: 62 to 88 km/h (Beaufort 8 to 9)

Potential impacts of winds: Minor to moderate threat to life and property

Luzon:
Batanes, the western portion of Babuyan Islands (Dalupiri Is., Calayan Is.), and the northwestern portion of Ilocos Norte (Burgos, Pasuquin, Pagudpud, Dumalneg, Bangui)

Wind threat: Strong winds

Warning lead time: 36 hours

Range of wind speeds: 39 to 61 km/h (Beaufort 6 to 7)

Potential impacts of winds: Minimal to minor threat to life and property

Luzon:
The northern portion of La Union (Bangar, SUDIPEN, Luna, Balaoan, Santol, San Gabriel, Bacnotan, San Juan), the rest of Ilocos Norte, Ilocos Sur, Abra, Apayao, Kalinga, and the rest of Cagayan

Severe Winds:
The wind signals warn the public of the general wind threat over an area due to the tropical cyclone. Local winds may be slightly stronger/enhanced in upland/mountainous areas exposed to winds.

TRACK AND INTENSITY OUTLOOK

CRISING exited the Philippine Area of Responsibility at 10:00 AM today. It will continue moving generally west northwestward towards southern China for the rest of the forecast period.

CRISING is forecast to continue to intensify and may reach Typhoon category tomorrow (20 July) afternoon or evening.
